Blue summer water on Windermere framed by trees, the wooded far shore beyond

An hour at Hide

An unhurried hour between the heat and the water

An hour at Hide moves at your own pace. Warm up in the sauna, cool off in the plunge, under the outdoor shower or in the lake, then go back in when you're ready.

The sauna

Hide is a handcrafted timber sauna, electrically heated in the Finnish tradition, with a panoramic window overlooking Windermere. Sit in the heat and watch the light, weather and water change beyond the glass.

The cold

Cold plunge, outdoor shower, or the lake

Beside the sauna is a cold plunge and outdoor shower, with Windermere just a few steps away. Between rounds of heat, cool down however you like — plunge, shower or lake — before heading back into the sauna.

The woodland

Ancient woodland on the Graythwaite Estate

Hide sits among ancient woodland on the quieter western shore of Lake Windermere. The Graythwaite Estate has been home to the Sandys family for more than five hundred years, and much of the land around the sauna remains woodland and lakeshore.

Woodpeckers and squirrels move through the trees, fish rise on the lake and ospreys can sometimes be seen overhead. If you're lucky, you may even catch sight of a pine marten from a recent local release. Sit still for long enough and there is usually something to notice.
